Golden appliqué plates are one of the most common types of jewelry found in Scythian mounds. A plate with a full-face image of a woman's head belongs to similar ones decorated the costume of a noble Scythian woman in the mound near the village of Vovkivtsi. This plate shows a round female face with large almond-shaped eyes, a short broad nose and full lips. A lush hairstyle is around the head. On the neck there is a necklace of large beads and pendants.
The prototype of this image was probably the image of the Greek goddess of fertility and agriculture Demeter. The cult of this goddess was widespread throughout the ancient world, including in the territory of the Northern Black Sea region, where the Scythians lived. The local craftsman successfully reworked the antique model to the aesthetic and religious preferences of the population of the forest-steppe part of Scythia. Analogues of this image in other Scythian monuments are unknown.
