Description

The cross-shaped veil is a coverlet that belongs to the items used during the divine service. It was used to cover the chalice (bowl) with wine for communion. It is made of red silk. In the center a throne with the baby Christ in a liturgical cup is embroidered with metallized golden, silver and silk threads. The composition was called "Thy Lamb" or "Christ in the Cup". On the four side squares of the cover there is an image of the archangels Gabriel, Michael, Uriel and Raphael in a praying posture with extended and raised hands. All the images are made with attaching technique and belong to highly artistic works of ritual sewing.
